2020's Il Lombardia edition was strange and beautyful with the victory that went to Jakub Fuglsang.
The pace was very high from the beginning with the first hour of racing at 47,5 km/h till 11 riders including Marco Frapporti made the breakaway. The bresciano rider repeated the action of last saturday's Milano - Sanremo.
The maximum gap for the escapees was 4'30" with the peloton led by the Deceuninck - Quick Step who chased very hard managing to close he gap on the historical climb of Ghisallo, where on top only a selected bunch of 30 riders were able to follow the fast pace in front including Lorenzo Rota.
The bergamasco rider was dropped on the following climb of Muro di Sormano but he was able to resist ending with an excellent 18th place, his best result in a Monument Classic with a prestigious startlist.
"I felt good and I gave it all, the heat and the fast pace from the beginning made the difference. I'm happy with the result, honestly I think that it was hard to do better than this".
The next races for the team Vini Zabù - KTM will be on tuesday the Giro dell'Emilia and the first stage of the Tour du Limousin.
