GIRO D'ITALIA: LUCA WACKERMANN 5TH IN AGRIGENTO

An exciting finale in the 2nd stage of the Giro d'Italia for the team VIni Zabù - Brado - KTM that has attacked with Luca Wackermann who was able to end in 5th place.

The team of Angelo Citracca has joined the first breakaway of the Corsa Rosa with Etienne Van Empel who went on the attack with De Gendt, Gastauer, Bais and Tonelli, an action that the dutch rider risked to miss after crashing in the downhill of Santa Ninfa.

Van Empel managed to go back to the head of the race but the peloton, after keeping the atttacker inside 5', was back on them with 10 kms to the finish in one of the most beautiful zones of Sicily.

With 1 km to go Luca Wackermann decided to attack but on his wheel he had Diego Ulissi, Peter Sagan and Mikkel Honorè with the rider of the team Uae Emirates who won the stage.

Wackermann defended himself from the comeback of the Pink Jersey peloton achieving an excellent result in his second day of a Grand Tour in career.

"Today I knew that if I wanted to achieve an important result I had to anticipate and this is what I did. I'm happy because this has been a great image for the team and we will be even more motivated. The condition is good and we will try again in the next days".

Tomorrow first uphill finish of this Giro d'Italia from Enna to Etna in 150 kms
