TIRRENO - ADRIATICO: VISCONTI ON THE ATTACK IN THE QUEEN STAGE
Another day with the team Vini Zabù - KTM on the attack in the queen stage of the Tirreno - Adriatico with uphill finish on Sassotetto. Giovanni Visconti and Edoardo Zardini were part of an early breakaway together with Mathias Fränk, Jhonatan Restrepo, Marco Canola, Carl Fredrik Hagen, Hector Carretero, Amanuel Ghebreigziabiher and Julien Bernard. 6'23" was the maximum gap with the siciliano rider who was provisional blue jersey for the whole first half of the stage forcing team EF to chase hard to keep the leadership of Michael Woods. While the breakaway was losing some riders on their way, including Zardini, the peloton started to come back and with 11 kms to go, on the bottom of the final climb, Visconti got caught. Luca Wackermann launched an attack in the first kms of the climb but also the winner of the Tour du Limousin didn't have a chance. Stage win and GC leadership for Simon Yates with Wackermann as top finisher in 42nd place, same position occupied by Giovanni Visconti in the general classification. Tomorrow 171 kms from Castelfidardo to Senigallia for the sprinters before the last two decisive stages in Loreto and San Benedetto del Tronto.
