He wanted this win so much and he finally got it. Giovanni Visconti has won the 4th stage of the Tour of Slovenia eight years after his last one achieved with our team at the Settimana Ciclistica Lombarda.

His talent is still the same despite a very difficult spring, with a lot of physical problems that limited his performances but not his fighting spirit that let him claim some good results also in precarious conditions.

Giovanni Visconti is back to the victory after a perfect day for the team Neri Sottoli - Selle Italia - KTM that has started working for his captain with 70 kms to go setting a very fast pace and cacthing up the breakaway at the bottom of the Predmeja climb.

On the 1st category KOM there four riders able to open a gap, the duo from Uae Emirates Tadej Pogacar and Diego Ulissi, the young russian rider from Gazprom Alexsandr Vlasov and Visconti who managed to stay with them despite the very steep final km.

The four leaders were able to keep the chasers behind them on the downhill and they cooperated till the last km where Giovanni Visconti did a great sprint overtaking the Yellow Jersey Ulissi in the final metres and claiming his first win in 2019. Now he sits in 2nd place of the general classification with one stage to go.

Giovanni Visconti

"I wanted this win so much, I realized that the breakaway was dangerous and so I've ordered to my team mates to start work to catch the escapees as soon as possible. On the climb I was able to stay with the favourites and thanks to this I could fight for the win at the sprint. I was worried by the team Uae Emirates that had two men in the front but today I felt invincible because my best friend Massimo died few days ago. He was at my side today and I want to dedicate this win to him"
